Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup All Stars - Official Rules

The 2008 Oh Boy Oberto Redfish Cup rules representing the new format are coming soon. Listed below are 2007 rules.

QUALIFICATIONS

Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup anglers who have fished a minimum of three seasons in Redfish Cup events are eligible to qualify for All Star events. In 2006 and the first All Star event in 2007, anglers eligible are those who fished complete seasons in 2004, 2005 and 2006. In 2007 All Star events that are held after the OPEN Division season has started, anglers eligible are those who have fished complete seasons in 2005, 2006 and all 2007 events in an angler's OPEN division prior to the upcoming All Star event.

In 2007, eligible teams are only required to compete in one OPEN Division (three tournaments) of the two OPEN divisions of the Redfish Cup and have two full years of competition in the two previous seasons.

POINTS

Points will be gained in one of two OPEN divisions (East and West). Each OPEN division will have three events. The top 15 teams, determined by cumulative Team of the Year points of the teams that have fished all three events in an OPEN division, will qualify for the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship. In addition points earned at the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship will count toward All Star qualifying.

Teams can fish either or both OPEN divisions, but only one OPEN division's Team of the Year points will go toward Championship qualifying and All Star qualifying.

Any team consisting of the same two anglers can fish both OPEN divisions, but their Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship qualifying points and All Star qualifying points will come from the division with the highest Team of the Year point total for that season.

An angler who fishes with one partner in a division and another partner in the other must declare prior to the season which OPEN division counts toward All Star and Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Championship qualifying. In short, an angler can only have one partner for Team of the Year points towards the All Star and RFC championship.

All Star points will be accumulated during the course of the season in the form of Team of the Year points. Prior to each All Star event, the specified number of teams for that All Star event with the most cumulative Team of the Year points, which have fished all eligible Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup events in their respective OPEN division will advance to the upcoming All Star event.

In a season when All Star events are scheduled within the regular OPEN events, teams can qualify or fall out of the upcoming All Star event based on the changes of the Team of the Year points

In OPEN division qualifying, points will be based on a 150-point system. In every OPEN division tournament 150 points will be awarded to the champion of each event. The remaining points down to the numeral 1, will be averaged out according to the number of anglers in the event. IE: If there are 150 teams, first place gets 150; second gets 149 and so on. But if there are 75 teams, the top teams receives 150 points, second receives 148 points and so on.

TEAMS

All Star points (ie., cumulative Team of the Year points) are earned by each angler of a two-man team. In the case of a team splitting or losing one member, each member of that team keeps the points earned for the respective year that they fished. If a team member combines with another angler who has gained All Star points, then they must declare which angler's points they will use in regards to All Star qualifying. That declaration will remain the same for the duration of that team's existence. An angler can only carry over points that he had a part in earning. Only teams that have at least one angler with three years of cumulative points and have fished all events in 2004, 2005 and 2006 will be eligible for the 2006 All Star event.

In the case of an All-Star eligible team splitting up during the course of a single season, both anglers will receive points for events fished prior to the split. But the splitting anglers will not be eligible to qualify for that season's All Star events with a partner who joined the team in the middle of the season, unless you receive a special exemption due to extenuating circumstances. The Redfish Cup tournament director will determine eligibility in those cases. An angler's points earned prior to the split will count toward future season's All-Star eligibility. An angler can qualify for the next season's All Star events if all other criteria are met.

In short, anglers may not split up during a season, add new partners and compete in THAT season's All Star events.

In 2007, teams that have fished all events in 2005, 2006 and every event held within their declared OPEN division will be eligible for All Star events. A team can not pick and chose which All Star event they will fish. If they qualify and elect to not fish an event, they will forfeit their position in that All Star event and the next two scheduled All Star events. Team of the Year points can still be accrued and applied to future All Star eligibility during that detention period. Exception: In the case of extenuating circumstances (ie: death, debilitating sickness) a team could be exempt from an All Star event, an alternate can not be used and the next team on the points list will move up for that event. The Redfish Cup tournament director will determine eligibility in those cases.

The field for the 2007 Ice Breaker All Star event will consist of 30 teams in accumulated Team of the Year points from the 2004, 2005 and 2006 Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup seasons. There are no exemptions for this event.

The field for the 2007 Mid-Term Bash and The Last Cast All Star events will consist of 30 teams, based on accumulated points from the 2005, 2006 and the 2007 season's Team of the Year points.

In the case of one of the qualifying All Star teams opting out of an All Star event, the next team eligible for the All Star event will move into the competitor's list.

In the final All Star event of each season, the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Champion for that season will receive an automatic invitation along with the Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup Rookie Team of the Year if there is a clear-cut Rookie of the Year winner following the Redfish Cup Championship. If no rookie teams make the RFC Championship, there is no way to determine a Rookie Team of the Year. Rookie teams must consist of two anglers that have never competed in a Redfish Cup event prior to that season. Anglers who have previously been listed as alternates but have not actually competed in an event are eligible. If you fished one day of a Redfish Cup tournament in a previous season you are not eligible for Rookie of the Year status.

ALL-STAR RULES

regular season Oh Boy! Oberto Redfish Cup OPEN rules will apply to All Star competition with these additions:

A no-information rule will be in place for All Star Events, starting 30 days prior to the first day of competition. "No information" specifically means no hiring of guides or paying for services that could be deemed as an advantage to a competing team.
